My Tripura Visit

Road to Bangladesh Border,Agartola
Roads of Tripura
The place where the Turtles of AnantSagar come to 'die',Udaypur
Our Base Camp : Hotel Rajdhani, Agartala(state capital of Tripura),30-45 min. from the Agartala Airport

Places We Visit :

Palace of the Tripura king, Birendra Narayan Barman. Built in Greek, English and Mughal architecture .It was designed by an ordinary construction contractor when the palace was rebuilt after the earlier palace was destroyed by a devastating earthquake.

Bangladesh Border, Akhora road, used for the transportation of stone chips from Bangladesh. I saw many Bangladeshi Trucks (number plates of the trucks are written in Bengali and in a format : Place Number)

Tripura HandiCraft is famous for its cane bamboo-made products. We visit the govt handicraft shop to buy some of them as souvenirs.

A college amidst the hills ? That is where 50 and more years old,Maharaja Bir Bikram Science college is situated. My father was a student of this beautiful college. The college also has a nature made open air stadium.

Udaynagar BiswaBidyalay was a school only for the family members of the king of Tripura.Later on after the british rule the new democratic govt of Tripura open this school to all kind of students. My father was a student of this beautiful school .

Udaypur is famous for its kali mandir (a hindu goddess) and its friendly turtles. These turtles will eat biscuits and stuffed rice. Not only the turtles there are many Rohu and Katlas, all of them are big and you can see them feasting on biscuits when you throw one towards them. Legend says that if you eat any of the fish you and your family will suffer . So, no one catch or kill these aquatic animals. Instead they worship them as god.All this turtle will climb to a specific place in the kali temple and die there.Anantsagar is situated in front of the Kali temple.(The sweets of the temple will never rot - and it is a real fact.)

Sipaijola is a national wildlife sanctuary and famous for optical monkeys. Eyes of this monkeys are surrounded by white circles that looks like they are wearing goggles . Though Sipaijola is a national forest ,we visit the Sipaijola Zoo built in the buffer region of reserved sanctuary. You have to buy a ticket first at the entrance of the sanctuary (cost : Rs.40 for cars) and then at the zoo entrance(cost :Rs.15,Rs.20 extra if you have a camera).Sipaijola is surrounded by small hills and rubber plants. Many types of flora and fauna can be observed . We are greeted by sweet chitters of a bird called ‘Bou Katha Kao’

Both Sipaijola and Udaipur is situated in South Tripura and it will take nearly 1-1.30 hours to reach Udaipur from Agartala by car.

Climate : Similar to Kolkata.

People : Deb Barmas i.e. local tribals and Bengalis. Tribals majority in the hilly region and Bengali majority in plain land. Both have a good relation but some among the tribals want a separate country for them and often they will kill or harass Bengali speaking people. That is why the hilly regions of North Tripura is not safe for tourists.
